INTIMACY COORDINATOR
Ruby Rare is a certified Intimacy Coordinator for film and television.
She is trained through the SAG-AFTRA-accredited Intimacy Professionals Association (IPA) and is a member of BECTU. Based between Margate & London, she is available to work across the UK.
Ruby brings over a decade of award-winning work in sex education to the world of on screen intimacy, merging her passion for open, honest conversations about bodies and desire with a deep commitment to seeing intimacy represented with care, nuance, and creativity. As a recognised leader in the UK's sex education scene, she has built her career on empowering people to shed shame around their bodies and sexuality through knowledge, celebration, and advocacy - and she brings that same spirit of generosity and openness onto set.
Her ten years as a life model and life drawing facilitator have given her an embodied understanding of the human form, which translates into thoughtful, precise intimacy choreography. Combined with prior experience as a script consultant and on-screen sex educator, Ruby offers a rich, multidisciplinary foundation as she begins her work in Intimacy Coordination.
Ruby's work centres underrepresented sexualities, desires, and relationship styles. She speaks from within these communities rather than as an outside observer, offering a rare blend of approachability and lived experience that helps actors tap into empowered performance.
Ruby isn't afraid to go where others might hesitate. She's drawn to bold, honest stories - the ones that push boundaries and reflect the full spectrum of human intimacy - and she tells them with an unwavering foundation of care, consent, and trauma-informed support. Her goal is simple: to uplift performers, champion directors' visions, and help build an industry where intimate work happens collaboratively, confidently, and safely.

Trained to Safeguarding Level 4 from her work in local councils and the sexual health charity Brook.
Attended training on HIV and PrEP Awareness (Positive East & PrEPster), Online Safety, The Wheel of Consent, Antibiotic Resistance, FGM, CSE, Abortion Care, and Supporting Sex Workers (2018-2024).
Member of the Sexual Health and Disability Alliance (SHADA) which has provided knowledge on how to adjust working environments to cater to differing access needs.

What is an Intimacy Coordinator?
An Intimacy Coordinator ensures that the process of filming intimate scenes goes smoothly: supporting actors while helping directors to realise their creative vision. This role works across multiple departments on a production to facilitate, manage, and choreograph intimate scenes.
“Intimate Content is a wide umbrella term that includes: simulated sex, nudity and partial nudity, kissing, simulated sexual assault and non-consensual action, medical scenes, childbirth, bodily functions, and more. An IC works with a rigorous consent-based practice to help ensure the well-being of creatives involved in the shooting of these scenes.”

Intimacy Coordinators help to:
Facilitate a dialogue between the actors, director, and production about intimate scenes, ensuring the creative vision is actualised, while also negotiating boundaries and comfort levels.
Ensure that closed set and union protocols are followed.
Assist in choreography of simulated sex scenes, when requested by the director.
Prepare actors emotionally for intense intimacy scenes, such as simulated sexual assault, providing support throughout production, rehearsals, and shooting, as well as offering emotional aftercare when needed.
Coordinate with costume and makeup departments to ensure actors are provided with appropriate nudity garments, barriers, and prosthetics.
Serve as an on-set advocate and ally for LGBTQIA+ cast members.
